Folded Light is Steve Damstra and Jaffe Zinn. Damstra and Zinn met in 2006 while working on a video for Damstra's other band, Whirlwind Heat, and started writing music together via the internet until Damstra moved to Los Angeles in 2007 and the duo began recording their self titled debut LP, which was self released in January of 2009.
Their second LP, "Kelly," was self released in January of 2010, but started gaining attention a full year later in 2011: it was listed on French label Alter K's top 10 albums of 2011, and one of the tracks, "Color," was picked up for use in McDonald's national Coke glass ad campaign in the U.S.
The duo took a short hiatus after the recording of their second LP during which Zinn directed his first feature length film, Magic Valley. Damstra wrote the score for the film along with fellow composer Mads Heldtberg. The film premiered at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival and since then has been touring the international film festival circuit to much acclaim.
"Warm Dark," the duo's third LP, was written and recorded during breaks from the festival circuit from November 2011 to February 2012.
